Comparison of determination methods of formaldehyde content in textiles
Formaldehyde is a colorless, pungent gas with a strong odor. It is a toxic substance to the protoplasm of biological cells. It can bind to proteins in the organism, change the structure of proteins and solidify them.Inhalation of high concentration of formaldehyde can induce bronchial asthma, respiratory inflammation. In the process of wearing and storage, under the action of humidity and temperature, free formaldehyde will be released to different degrees. Direct contact with the skin can stimulate the skin mucosa and cause allergic dermatitis. It ranks second on the priority control list of toxic chemicals in China.Since the 1920 s, formaldehyde as cellulose fiber resin finishing of commonly used crosslinking agent, used in fabric finishing, mainly used in shrink water, anti-wrinkle, waterproof, prevent fade, flame retardant treatment etc, in order to maintain the durability of printing and dyeing and improve the grip and added in the auxiliary demand such as formaldehyde, in the process of production after pretreatment, dyeing and printing, post-processing and other multi-channel processing process, cause the residual formaldehyde in textiles.
Formaldehyde is an important index to evaluate the safety performance of textiles.Accurate detection of formaldehyde content in textiles is the premise of consumer safety.
National standard about the determination of formaldehyde content in textiles with three methods, namely, GB/T2912.1-2009 "the determination of formaldehyde of textiles, part 1: free and hydrolyzed formaldehyde (water extraction method), GB/T2912.2-2009" the determination of formaldehyde of textiles part 2: the release of formaldehyde (vapor absorption) and GB/T2912.3-2009 "the determination of formaldehyde of textiles part 3: high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) act.At present, in most textile standards in China, water extraction method is required to test formaldehyde content in textiles, which is quick, convenient and widely used. The second and third methods are less commonly used due to product or condition limitations.Next, the formaldehyde content meter of our company is introduced.
